The code of Tractrix and OpenAirside is free software: the GPL lets you use, change and share it. The GPL licenses the code, not our names and logos. This policy explains how you may refer to our brands, so that people can always tell an official Tractrix release from a modified one.

1. Our marks

  • Tractrix™, the Tractrix logo and mark (the curve, pivot and gear symbol), and the product names Tractrix Cloud, Tractrix for AutoCAD, Tractrix for Revit and Tractrix for QGIS are trademarks of REAT Global.
  • They are currently unregistered, with applications [TRADEMARK REGISTRATION STATUS]. Use the ™ symbol, never ®, until a registration is granted in the relevant country.
  • OpenAirside is the name of the open-source engine and project. Anyone may use it to describe software built on or derived from the engine (see section 4), but not in a way that suggests endorsement by REAT Global.
  • The tagline “The science of airside motion.” is used by REAT Global to identify Tractrix.

2. Uses that are always allowed

You may, without asking, use the word marks in plain text to refer truthfully to our products, provided the use is accurate and does not suggest sponsorship or endorsement. For example:

  • “This study used Tractrix for AutoCAD 1.0” or “swept paths computed with Tractrix Cloud”;
  • “compatible with Tractrix”, “works with the tractrix/1 protocol”, “based on OpenAirside”, “a fork of Tractrix for QGIS”;
  • articles, reviews, tutorials, training materials, academic papers and comparisons that name the products;
  • showing screenshots of the unmodified products and the logo as it appears in them, in articles and tutorials, following the guidelines in the brand/ folder of the repository.

3. Uses that need our written permission

  • using a Tractrix mark or logo in the name, logo or branding of your own product, service, company, domain name, social-media handle or app-store listing;
  • using the logo other than to refer to our products (for example on merchandise or as a decorative element);
  • modifying the logo, combining it with other marks, or using confusingly similar names or logos (for example “Tractrixx” or “Tractrix Pro” for a third-party product);
  • stating or implying that REAT Global certifies, endorses, sponsors or supports your product, service, project or results (see also the Engineering disclaimer — results must never be presented as approved by REAT Global);
  • using the marks in advertising keywords or search-engine campaigns for a competing product.

4. Forks, modified versions and redistribution

  • Unmodified copies of our official releases may be redistributed under their original names and logos, as the GPL allows.
  • Modified versions must not be called Tractrix or use the Tractrix logos or icons. Rename them — for example “OpenAirside for QGIS” or a name of your own — and replace the logo and the brand/ assets. You may state accurately that your version is “based on Tractrix for QGIS” or “derived from OpenAirside”.
  • Modified versions must not give the impression that they come from REAT Global. The GPL's own requirement to mark modified files and give the date of changes (GPL v2 §2(a)) still applies.
  • Nothing in this policy restricts rights the GPL gives you over the code.

5. Third-party trademarks

  • Autodesk, AutoCAD and Revit are registered trademarks of Autodesk, Inc., and/or its subsidiaries and/or affiliates in the USA and/or other countries. Tractrix for AutoCAD and Tractrix for Revit are independent products of REAT Global; they are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Autodesk.
  • QGIS is a trademark of QGIS.org. Tractrix for QGIS is an independent plugin; it is not affiliated with or endorsed by QGIS.org or the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo).
  • AviPLAN is a trademark of Transoft Solutions; any comparison with it is made for identification only and implies no affiliation.
  • Airbus, Boeing and the names of aircraft types, and the names of ground-vehicle manufacturers and models, are trademarks of their respective owners. They are used only to identify the aircraft and vehicles modelled. No manufacturer has endorsed Tractrix or its data.
  • ICAO, FAA and EASA are named to identify the standards referenced; use of their publications' values does not imply their endorsement.
  • Windows is a trademark of the Microsoft group of companies. GitHub is a trademark of GitHub, Inc.

6. Brand assets

Logos, colours and typography guidelines are in the Downloads (account required) of the repository. The brand assets are made available for referring to Tractrix under this policy; they are not licensed under the GPL for use as your own branding. The IBM Plex fonts used by the brand are licensed separately under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (see Licences).

7. Permission requests and reports

To ask for permission, or to report a use that may be confusing or infringing, write to [LEGAL NOTICES EMAIL]. We may update this policy; the current version applies.
